Indie 103.1 Rocks On
I don’t miss the traffic in LA. The smog. The proliferation of mothers who dress like their teen daughters. But one of the things I miss most is the music scene and the good times that are Indie 103.1. Like an idiot, I’d forgotten about the advent of radio streaming. Rolling Stone recently recognized 103.1 as the best radio station in the US, which led me back to their website’s playlists and their Listen Live stream. I haven’t fully investigated just the quantity and variety of songs they’ll stream online, but so far: thank you Internet and 103.1.
Awesome Jobs!
How awesome does this job sound – working as a researcher for the Daily Show?!
Dollhouse is coming!
Dollhouse is coming, let the countdown begin! Whedon’s new TV series, starring Eliza Dushku, has the burden of super high expectations. The premise sounded a little odd to me at first read, but I’m sure that’s what they said about Firefly and Buffy when they were being pitched. If interested in spoiling yourself with more details, check out this Vulture post or this Dollverse site.
Hulu: Jackpot for Old Shows
When I first started using Hulu, the most exciting part for me wasn’t necessarily seeing new episodes of new shows but checking out all those old shows I’d watched before but had forgotten I’d watched. Or all of those old shows you mean to watch but didn’t because you were too lazy to go find them. Old episodes of Pretender? Jack of All Trades?! Young Hercules?! NewsRadio? Which makes this news about the rebirth of Arrested Development rather bittersweet.
Absinthe Cupcakes
I didn’t know it was possible, but absinthe can be used in cooking…cupcakes?
Lost is BAAACCCCK!
It’s BAAAAACCCK! ABC’s Thursday lineup is back tonight after the writer’s strike. And if the episodes before the strike were any indication, the rest of season 4 will wipe out the malaise of season 3 and kick. ass.
Since JJ Abrams is off doing his movie thing and Star Trek and all that jazz, the series’ direction really rests on Damen Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. Here’s both a NYTimes article and an interview they did with the AV Club. Well, them and these crazy kooks:
What I would give to be a fly in that writers room.
Bambi
Taken out of context, that name sounds less like a wholesome Disney cartoon and more like a porn star. But at any rate, I was doing a morning walk to try and get my adrenaline up and came across a deer. A DEER. FIVE FEET AWAY. Although it was really cool to see one, I was worried that a car would come barreling down the hill and make roadkill out of him. Bambi was released in 1942, so 66 years later, has the movie done harm or good?
Benny the Bull gets Sued
To all my friends in law school worried about their future, unless the world goes back to the way it was in the Stone Age if the markets go to hell, you will always have work. Why the optimism you ask? Because there will be cases like this one, where Chicago Bulls mascot Benny the Bull gets Sued.
WWE and…Senators?
Tonight’s an odd night for TV – Bush is appearing on Deal or No Deal tonight, and McCain, Obama, and Clinton are dropping by WWE in taped messages.
Nerd Terrorists
An engineer whose science project went awry scared subway riders in NYC last month. The mental image of this scene will keep me entertained for days. Poor guy: http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/03/28/science.project.scare.ap/index.html
