The Next Horizon?

April 7, 2008 · No Comments

Whenever renewal season comes around, tv execs inevitably break my heart and cancel some awesome, low-rated show I adore. It’s a vicious cycle and I’m like a dumb puppy about this kind of stuff.

This is why I find this news about Scrubs and Friday Night Lights particularly exciting. Sure cable tv offerings satisfy an increasingly specialized, niche-friendly market, but this new business model could revolutionize the broadcasting industry’s programming model. And anything that allows great ’smaller’ shows to stay on the air is OK by me.

What if this means they could resurrect previously-cancelled shows with a strong fanbase? Imagine the possibilities! In a perfect world, we could be saying “Welcome back, Firefly.”
