The Truth about Writing

Posted in Television by Michelle on October 29, 2008

“”Tina [Fey] and [Robert] Carlock are both huge Star Wars nerds, as am I, and many people on the writing staff, because writers usually work by themselves, in a dark room. They’re very lonely people, and there are no better friends than science fiction.” —Scott Adsit (aka Pete on 30 Rock) on why there are so many Star Wars references on the show.”

Check out more of Adsit’s funny interview at the A.V. Club.

Hand Me that Box of Kleenex, Already

Posted in General News by Michelle on October 24, 2008

It’s a tale as old as time. Family flees North Korea for South Korea. Family struggles in new land, and 17-year old daughter becomes a boxer to support family. Can you craft a more compelling, heartbreaking, triumphant tale? I think not.

30 Rock is Back!

Posted in Television by Michelle on October 23, 2008

FINALLY.

The strike cut last season short, with only 15 episodes in Season 2. The third season premiere is up on Hulu a week before it’ll premiere on NBC (October 30th).

This show, like Friday Night Lights, ranks in my Top 10 List of All Time Favorite TV shows, but gets low ratings and is entirely too good for the current NBC line-up. Now that Fey’s become more prominenct with via her Palin work on SNL, let’s all hope the audience migrates to 30 Rock.

The ensemble cast is fantastic, but the two biggest gems are Jack McBrayer as Kenneth the Page and, of course, Alec Baldwin as Jack Donaghy:

And one of my favorite Liz Lemon moments:

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li

Posted in Movies by Michelle on October 7, 2008

“Her strength. Her fury. Her vengeance. Will become legend”

This is the tagline of “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li.” Oh the little things in life that make me laugh and give me joy. Kristen Kreuk from Smallville is set to play Chun Li. Her acting leaves much to be desired, but we all know acting is not what this movie is going to be about. I only hope that this, like the original Street Fighter movie, is so bad it’s good:

Friday Night Lights & Pushing Daisies: Critically Beloved, Low-Rated Forever?

Posted in Uncategorized by Michelle on October 1, 2008

The theme of TV tonight is, “Shows I Love that Need Bigger Audiences So They Don’t Get Canceled and I Don’t Shed More Tears for Fan-freaking-tastic TV That Don’t Survive the Brutal Wasteland that can be Network Television.”

In other words: Friday Night Lights and Pushing Daisies. (Sidebar: When I was in Austin last month, I had a very nice elevator conversation with a football-coach-looking guy. It wasn’t until he was stepping off that I realized he was holding a script titled “Friday Night Lights.” FNL films in Austin. I almost ran down the hall after him and turned into one of those scary fans. Almost.”

FNL is premiering on DirecTV tonight (which I don’t have access too) and will premiere on NBC in February. Pushing Daisies was my favorite new show last season, and I believe, one of the most unique voices in the TV landscape currently. Watch these shows! Please, pretty please? It’s got the Chenoweth, for crying out loud!
