Project Runway, NY Fashion Week

Posted in Television by Michelle on September 12, 2008

I think Project Runway is one of the best television shows on the air currently, but this season has really and truly sucked. I watched the first couple of episodes and found myself utterly uninvested, which may be due to Season 5 airing so closely on the heels of Season 4. Or it could be because Bravo was determined to sink the ship before it sailed off to Lifetime.

I will inevitably catch up in a marathon, but for now I can scroll through the finale in photos and get the Fug Girls’ recap. There were six final shows because some of them are decoys. SIX. Really, Magical Elves? Six?!

Overall, there are two that I love and one that I like. I(I won’t say who to avoid spoilers). I love this for it’s colorful, Pushing Daisies-like kookiness and its fantastic final dress. And while this has lush, detailed elegance, it’s this one that is the most structurally interesting, beautiful collection. My prediction is that the third will take the cake.

TV Roundup for the Week

Posted in Television by Michelle on July 18, 2008

Project Runway: It’s baaaaaaack. You’d barely know it though with all the lack of publicity. I’m going to catch the first episode of Season 5 later this weekend because it premiered at the same time as…

So You Think You Can Dance! I’m not the only one who’s sad that Gev’s gone. Check out Low Resolution’s take on it. If youd’ asked me at the beginning of the show, I never would have guessed he’d be such a good partner AND have the best solos.  BTW, I know Kherington has lagged over the last couple of weeks, but the thought of watching the uber non-versatile Comfort going further in the show is driving me crazy.

Psych: Welcome back, show. It’s so much better than it really should be on paper, and I think that’s mainly attribute to the interaction between its leads – James Roday and Dule Hill (previously of West Wing). Here’s the Grub Report on the show’s Season 3 launch. Keckler’s totally right in that this promo makes you happy.

Imagine: Michael Scott with Jazz Hands!

Posted in Television by Michelle on June 5, 2008

I haven’t posted in a really long time, but I have an amazing, A+ excuse lined up – my computer at home wouldn’t let me! Every time I tried to go onto my dashboard and write a post, the damn thing went fritzy.

First off all, my neighbors got cable. Life-changing I tell you! So while summer’s a slow time for TV, there are some notably super-bright spots I can now take advantage of. Project Runway 5 is returning in July, but more importantly MAD MEN is coming back JULY 27TH.

When I first watched Mad Men, my thought was, “Holy schneikies! This was the 60s! The 60s were so recent! Things were like that so recently?!” How it came to be on AMC is a testament to 1) HBO’s folly and 2) the growing competition in the cable sphere in developing interesting, prime-time fare.

I will most likely also check out The Singing Office, too, mainly because I have this deep down (Ok fine, not that deep) desire that we could just break into musicals in real life occasionally. The premise of the show isn’t as compelling as the idea that we could break into song at work. Break out those jazz hands, y’all.

It’s a mother(@*&$ walk-off!

Posted in Television by Michelle on May 6, 2008

It would be hilarious if there was a walk-off between NBC & Bravo, Weinstein, and Lifetime. Anyways, the chess match for Project Runway continues. The advantage seems to be leaning just slightly towards NBC right now after they signed on the PR producers to an NBC-exclusive deal. But even if the producers don’t join the show on Lifetime, I wonder if they would bring on non-exec producers from Magical Elves like Michael Rucker. Next to the Amazing Race and the Mole, this is one of the best reality shows of all time. I’m really hoping the network squabbling won’t change that.
